Del Mar Academy’s campus is among its best features. Nestled at the end of a dead end road and surrounded by jungle, our campus is private, secure and absolutely beautiful! We have seven spacious acres of precious trees, large green fields and a hill that overlooks it all. One of the most noticeable features is the waving colors of our fifteen different flags that run along our primary entrance. Each flag represents the country of our students and staff member’s homes, making DMA a truly international school, rich with diverse cultures.
The structures consist of our main school building that has four classrooms, library/computer room and main office. The second school building, known as the “Casa Building”, has two large classrooms with vaulted ceilings and a covered patio for our youngest students. Lunch is served in a large open-air rancho which is right alongside the caretaker house. Next to our private parking lot is our small farmyard where the children enjoy taking care of chickens, ducks, turkeys, sheep and goats. Occasionally, baby chicks and even lambs can be seen scurrying across two athletic fields where the students enjoy a game of soccer, flag football, volleyball or tag. Between the two athletic fields is a full size multi-purpose basketball court. For the Casa and Toddler age children, we have a large, shady playground equipped with swings, slides, tubes, monkey bars and a large, two story “house fort” to climb on and play in. They also have their own smaller grassy athletic field where they stretch their legs and practice their soccer skills.
Over the years, the Del Mar Academy students have planted over 100 trees of various Costa Rican native species throughout the campus. The children have adopted and learned to care for these trees and watch the trees grow with each passing year. Manuel, our head caretaker, does an unbelievable job of keeping the campus beautiful year round and works tirelessly keeping it clean and safe for the children.
Other campus features include a deep water well and private water system, a secure fence that encloses all seven acres, security services, and plenty of room for the school to grow. We will be adding a high school building and pool in the future.
