Interdisciplinary Studies at DMA include environmental and nutritional education for students, along with our enrichment program. We believe that these studies are an integral part of everything we do and are essential in providing our students with a well-rounded education.
Creative and Enrichment Classes
Our curriculum includes Enrichment classes to enhance the child’s cultural and artistic awareness. Such creative activities are an essential part of a holistic curriculum, empowering each child to find his or her expressive “voice.” Moreover, we “infuse” the arts throughout the curriculum as a vital means to enrich and enliven other subject matter.
Arts and Crafts Through Art, we hope to stimulate the great joy the child finds creating something of his or her own. The children have the freedom to explore their imaginations in a variety of mediums used for expression. The importance of the process is stressed at this time, and not the end product. Activities may include: painting, drawing, photography, mural making, and collage making, as well as crafts like cooking, quilting, and sewing.
Physical Education and Creative Movement Creative movement and health exercises are a crucial, though often neglected, aspect of schooling. Such activities provide a genuine form of physical education as well as creative expression. Our school offers instruction in various movement arts such as dance and yoga, as well as sports like soccer and basketball.
